Role player #2 the Boston Celtics should poach from an Atlantic Division rival: Andre Drummond, Brooklyn Nets

Andre Drummond said the quiet part out loud recently when talking to Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

When asked about young Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton, Drummond admitted that he himself was a stopgap option, and that the 2019 second-round draft pick is a needed piece long-term since he won’t be:

"“And if we’re all being honest, I’m only here til the rest of the season. So who knows what’s gonna happen in the offseason? So they need a guy like (Nic).”"

Drummond has come into his own as the starting pivot for the Nets, grabbing double-digit rebounds in his last six games and scoring double-digit points in four of them. He’d be a fine backup option for any team on a minimum/mid-level deal.

Boston would be a great landing spot if he’d be willing to serve as insurance should Robert Williams suffer another untimely injury next season around this time. In such a role, Drummond could thrive as a board-gobbling big capable of giving the ‘Jays’ a screener that’s able to open up the floor even more for them to operate.

Daniel Theis could shift over to the 4, or Brad Stevens could explore moving the German center from the Cs for the second time in his career.
