Boston Celtics dud: Derrick White

Another player that the Boston Celtics will need to have play at a high level moving forward if they wish to see a long postseason run is combo guard, Derrick White. Unlike Theis, however, his production Wednesday night was not what they need to see come the big tournament.

Since joining the team back at this year’s deadline, the veteran has been viewed as someone who’s a consistent scoring game away from being the perfect sixth man option for the shamrocks.

That said, without it, even with all his other positive attributes, one could argue he’s been a relative disappointment.

Despite taking the fourth-most shots on the C’s, the fifth-year veteran was somewhat of a liability in the scoring department, missing wide-open shot after wide-open shot.

In nearly 34 minutes played, White went on to post nine points on just 33 percent shooting from the floor and 25 percent shooting from deep.

Now don’t get us wrong, we understand just how valuable the 27-year-old can be in many other facets of the game, including his most noteworthy attributes of defensive intangibles and distribution abilities (though, he did have just one more assist (three) than he did turnovers (two).

Still, his inability to consistently contribute as a scorer (missed several shots from beyond the arc as well as when in close) is starting to become a major concern for us at HH.

If he were able to have hit just a few more shots in this game–as well as in their last game against Toronto for that matter–we’re confident the Boston Celtics could have gone on to pull out a win and, in turn, take back the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference standings.

Instead, they’ve dropped two straight, and, if Derrick White can’t somehow find more consistency in his scoring game, we can be sure that we’ll be seeing a few more close bouts ending in disappointment moving forward.
