Boston Celtics player No. 3) Derrick White

Of all the players mentioned here today, Derrick White may be the most perplexing one to see listed–after all, he was just the big acquisition made by Boston at this year’s trade deadline.

That said, with the rather underwhelming way in which he’s been performing as of late, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, coupled with how well his backcourt counterpart, Marcus Smart, has been producing, one could make the argument that the 27-year-old could be best used as a trade chip this coming offseason to try and acquire a player who could serve as a better compliment to the team’s current core.

Now don’t get us wrong, we hold nothing personally against the fifth-year veteran and, in fact, we’re constantly hoping he can wind up tapping back into his pre-2021-22 form and start shooting at a consistent clip from the field & from deep.

Should he do this, without a doubt his addition to the team would prove to be a real difference for the Celtics, especially come the playoffs.

However, without these attributes, even with his other impressive skills (distribution, defense, etc.), White’s place on the roster seems a bit redundant being the Celtics already have a guard of a similar ilk under contract through 2025-26 in Smart.

Dangling the veteran on the block could wind up drawing quite a bit of interest by a number of teams looking for extra playmakers and stout defenders within their arsenal and, considering his average salary of $17.5 million, Stevens may be able to snag some quality players in the process (John Collins, perhaps?!).

Next. 2 teams that could trade for Aaron Nesmith. dark
