Boston Celtics expendable offseason piece #2: Aaron Nesmith

Aaron Nesmith’s standing in the Celtics rotation was actually far more secure before the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

With Romeo Langford and Josh Richardson ahead of him in the rotation, there was always a chance Nesmith could squeeze some time in should the duo struggle from the field. That happened enough to allow Nesmith to find time on the floor in the first half of the 2021-22 season.

With both being shipped off to San Antonio for sharpshooter Derrick White, things are going to be exponentially more difficult…if almost impossible come playoff time.

Nesmith is by no means someone the Cs should actively shop. He has had enough random bursts of offensive explosion to keep, especially on a cost-controlled rookie contract. But if the team could recoup some draft capital in any potential deal, it’s something Celtics PBO Brad Stevens would have to seriously consider.

At this point, Nesmith has yet to stand out like his 2020 first-round NBA Draft counterpart Payton Pritchard. A change of scenery could do him wonders if he can land with a team able to give him minutes and grow with him playing a supporting role in the growth.
