3 underrated teams the Boston Celtics could face in the postseason
Boston Celtics underrated team #2: Cleveland Cavaliers
It seems as though many are writing off the Cleveland Cavaliers come playoff time due to their lack of experience. While Jarrett Allen’s injury certainly hurts the, they are still deserving of being respected as a legitimate contender considering the team’s surprising defensive identity.
The duo of Allen and Evan Mobley act similarly to that of Al Horford and Robert Williams – with both bigs being able to move their feet while protecting the rim at an All-Star rate. Mobley’s progressed to one of the league’s 50 best players already in just his rookie season, as his potential on both ends of the court immeasurable.
Not to mention the All-Star campaign of Darius Garland, averaging 21 points and 8.2 assists per contest on 48/38/91 shooting splits. His growth as a ball-handler and distributor has carried the Cavaliers’ offense all year long, as they’ve struggled mightily when he’s been sidelined.
The Cavs have enough shot-makers on the perimeter, including Kevin Love and Cedi Osman, to keep opposing defenses honest, giving Garland space to work in one-on-one situations. It’s true that Cleveland is one of the youngest teams in the playoffs. That fact does not automatically equate to a first-round exit.
There’s a reason they surprised everyone and solidified themselves in the playoffs this season. With the addition of Caris LeVert, they’re gearing up for an extended run in the spring.
