Just twice, that’s right I said twice, since the start of February has the Boston Celtics been on the wrong end of the result.

So as the Cs host the 18-48 Detroit Pistons tonight at the T.D. Garden, it’s tough to envision a scenario where the team is anything but victorious.

That’s why they play the games, though, right?

Boston is rolling right now due to a starting lineup that defends at an elite level top to bottom, but this particular four-game win-streak is seeing Jayson Tatum rise to a new level as a scorer.

In the Celtics’ four wins (Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets) Tatum has played like a bona fide MVP candidate. This current run (33 points, 37 points, 54 points, 44 points, respectively) would be an MVP campaign for the 24-year-old if extrapolated over a full 82 games.

Detroit, to their credit, is playing more competitive basketball of late and seems intent on finishing ahead of the Orlando Magic in the standings, though. The Pistons have won six of their last nine games, and Cade Cunningham’s 21.4 points per game during that stretch are the primary impetus for why.

With a sizable spread on deck, Hardwood Houdini takes a look at the odds and lays out a prediction for the Friday night affair at 100 Legends Way:

Boston Celtics vs. Detroit Pistons odds, spread, over/under

According to WynnBet, the Celtics are a 14-point favorite against the Pistons at home. Detroit is a heavy underdog on the road at +800, with the Cs moneyline set at -1400. The over/under for the game has been placed at 216 points.

Celtics vs. Pistons prediction

14 points is a heavy spread, and the Pistons are on too much of a role to prognosticate a pitfall that pronounced.

Boston’s games in recent weeks have been higher scoring, while Detroit has played pretty close to this game’s over/under total the past few weeks.

We’ll lean to the over here, trusting on more fireworks from Tatum and the offense against a lottery team.

Pick: 216o (-110)
