The Boston Celtics are solidly a top team in the Eastern Conference as their winning ways continue.

Kyrie Irving (19 points) and Kevin Durant (37 points) were not enough for the Brooklyn Nets to take down Jayson Tatum and his 54-point performance at the T.D. Garden on Sunday afternoon. Irving was welcomed in the only way Cs fans will ever welcome him at 100 Legends Way for the rest of his career.

Not warmly.

Marcus Smart’s lockdown defense was instrumental in staving off Irving from having the kind of night he had during the two teams’ Eastern Conference quarterfinals matchup last May, and his nine assists helped illustrate the reason why the Cs never considered an Isaiah Thomas return.

Thomas was snatched up elsewhere, of course. Specifically, the Boston Celtics’ opponent Wednesday night, the Charlotte Hornets.

Charlotte enters Wednesday’s matchup at the Spectrum Center having gone 2-3 in their last five games, with a loss to the Nets last night. They sit in the #9 seed in the Eastern Conference postseason picture and would face the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Play-in if the season ended today.

Boston Celtics vs. Charlotte Hornets odds, spread, over/under

According to WynnBet, the Celtics are a 7-point favorite against the Hornets on the road. Charlotte is a home underdog at +250, with the Cs moneyline set at -320. The over/under for the game has been placed at 226.5 points.

Celtics vs. Hornets prediction

In three games this season, the Cs and Hornets matched the 226.5 points total over just once. That game went to overtime.

With Boston giving up an uncharacteristically high point total in the 2022 calendar year to the Nets Sunday, we like a bounce-back from the defense leading to an under hit.

Pick: 226.5u (-110)
