If you were to tell NBA fans back in October that on March 6th the Brooklyn Nets would be sitting in the eighth seed, you wouldn’t be taken even remotely seriously…especially if you told them that the Boston Celtics would be decent-sized favorites on that same day.

The Nets, of course, laid waste to the Cs last May in their Eastern Conference quarterfinals matchup outside of a spirited game three performance from Jayson Tatum, who dropped 50 points in Boston’s only win of the series.

My oh my have those tables turned.

A healthy Brooklyn big three spearheaded the team’s series win, but that turned out to be the only playoff triumph for Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.

Now, the Nets are a team struggling to find their identity after trading Harden away for a package headlined by a player who has not played a single game during the 2021-22 season and certainly won’t be in uniform today.

Ben Simmons’ absence aside, Irving’s COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy has created a conundrum in Kings County where the team’s second best player has been a part-time player. Kevin Durant’s injury absence yielded a 5-16 record, so needless to say, the absence of the team’s other max contract stars has cratered the chance this team had at a home-court advantage in the postseason.

Does this dysfunction in the Nets organization mean the Celtics cover the spread with ease on Sunday afternoon?

Hardwood Houdini has a prediction, odds, and TV information for the post-football season nationally televised (on ABC at 1 pm EST) matinee at 100 Legends Way:

Whether or not Jaylen Brown is in the lineup on Sunday afternoon, the Houdini expects both teams to run up the score. Heavy over lean here.
