Boston Celtics takeaway No. 2) New bench duo for C’s

The second unit for the Boston Celtics delivered on the backbones of the duo of Grant Williams and Derrick White, as the pair had 36 of the team’s 39 bench points overall for the game.

Most of this explosion for this newly formed duo was done in the second half, which included a personal nine-to-nothing run for White.

The 6-8 forward in Williams scored 12 points in the second half for his contribution.

Both players brought a tremendous amount of needed energy and lift to pick up for not having the services of Jaylen Brown out there.

The combo guard continued to shine as a primary ball-handler and play-maker with five assists and only one turnover. Valuing the possession of the basketball goes a long way in winning tight basketball games.

Grant Williams also had a killer spin move on Trae Young for one of the best drives of the game for the Celtics, which were the prettiest two by far of his 18 points.

This is the type of game where plus-minus does not quite paint the picture as both were negative for the game, yet positives in the eye test in the second half.

You have to consider the context: the Boston Celtics having to battle back from 17 down is not going to balance out anyone’s plus-minus.

It was next man up when JB went to the locker room, and these two answered the call.
