The NBA’s buyout deadline date is officially upon us, meaning that the Boston Celtics only have a small amount of time to potentially bring on someone new and, in turn, have these potential additions be eligible for this year’s postseason.
While the shamrocks have proven to be one of, if not the hottest team in the association since the New Year, this is not to say that they shouldn’t be interested in bolstering their rotation even more with one or two savvy grabs on the open market.
Now, while this year’s buyout season looks to be rather bleak, we at HH believe that there could still wind up being a few solid players found parting from their current employers at some point today.
As the clock continues to tick on the March 1st deadline, we at the site think that there are 3 buyout options that Brad Stevens and co. should be monitoring closely:
Boston Celtics potential buyout option No. 1) Paul Millsap
Paul Millsap has been a player long linked to the Boston Celtics, spanning back to just two offseasons ago where, according to reports, he was even considering the idea of making his way to eastern Massachusetts before re-upping with the Denver Nuggets.
Now, in 2021-22, the veteran big finds himself on the cusp of potentially being bought out after serving as an add-on in the deal that brought James Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers and, should these two parties ultimately part ways, once again we could see the C’s being in play to finally snag the 4x All-Star.
While he may not still be in his prime by any means, the 37-year-old has proven capable of still providing solid production for contending ball clubs over the past few seasons.
Since 2019, Millsap finds himself logging averages of 16.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and just over a block per 75 possessions on 47 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep.
Still a quality defender and a solid floor-spacer, the big man’s attributes could be a nice security blanket to have stationed amongst the team’s reserves, while his proven track record throughout his 16-year-career could provide some much-needed veteran leadership and experience to this talented, yet rather young roster.
