Boston Celtics takeaway No. 2) 43 bench points off the pine

I’ll be the first one to admit we at HH have been incredible critics of the Boston Celtics’ bottom-ranked bench unit, but we eat our shorts after this game.

43 bench points is an incredible outing, especially considering the C’s played an eight-man rotation for most of the contest. This decision to shorten the rotation by Ime Udoka was heavily criticized, but highly effective.

Why fix what’s clearly not broken?

Some of the leaders off the bench were the usuals of Grant Williams and Derrick White, but Payton Pritchard was a nice touch as the eighth man in the rotation logging a little over 13 minutes tonight.

The combo guard, White, continued to dazzle in front of Celtics brass, delivering a solid night with 15 points off the bench to go with five boards and three dimes.

Our reliable sharpshooter in Grant Williams added 10 points and both picked up the energy defensively whenever they saw playing time.

PP hit two deep three balls to provide a nice spark for the second unit and we got to see five whole minutes of precious Gino time.

The Boston Celtics sent their starters to the bench and we saw sightings of Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Sam Hauser, Brodric Thomas, and even Luke Kornet.

This has been the story for the Celtics blowing out teams by 20+ in the last seven road games.

Thomas showed a nice ability as a capable ball-handler and slasher.

Defenses have to respect Nesmith and Hauser as perimeter threats who move effectively without the ball. Kornet delivered a marquee garbage time block, and Theis brought his usual muscle and hustle attitude.
