Boston Celtics second-half goal No. 2) Make the most of their open roster spots

After having quite an active 2022 trade deadline, along with them bringing on a number of truly solid new rotational pieces, the Boston Celtics managed to open up a grand total of five separate roster spots and, while two have already been filled with the signings of Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet, three still remain vacated.

Because of this luxury, we at HH believe that Brad Stevens properly filling these newly acquired openings is unequivocally one of the biggest goals for this team during the second half of this season.

Though the C’s have proven to be a real title threat this year, boasting arguably the second-best starting lineup in the entire league, they are still a team with a few weaknesses, most notably when it comes to their bench unit.

Boston is a top-heavy team once again, highly dependent on their starters, particularly when it comes to the scoring department.

On the season as a whole, the Celtics’ bench ranks in as one of the worst scoring units in the NBA, currently placing 26th in points per game and next to dead last in offensive rating.

Obviously something should be done about this, and a way in which the front office can go about addressing this area of the rotation is by pursuing players currently available on the open market, be it those who have remained there all season or those who are eventually bought out by their current ball clubs.

Specifically, when it comes to the latter market, there are likely to be several intriguing players who are slated to hit free agency by these means, with names ranging from Jeremy Lamb to Mike Muscala, two players we believe could prove to be perfect fits within Ime Udoka’s rotation.

On the flip side, however, there are already quite a few players available for the taking that could be great adds in their own right.

Whether they wait it out to see who parts ways with their current employers or simply go on as soon as today to bring on a few free agents, one thing’s for sure–the Boston Celtics must look to make the most out of their three open roster spots.
