Boston Celtics free agent target No. 2) Isaiah Thomas

Always and forever, we at HH will be in favor of seeing a reunion between the Boston Celtics and their former franchise point guard, Isaiah Thomas.

Be it driven purely by emotion, logic, or by something in between we are under the belief that seeing the former MVP candidate back in green and white threads could prove to be an overall net positive for a multitude of reasons.

Perhaps the biggest plus an IT reunion would bring would be found within the camaraderie department, particularly amongst several of the team’s main rotational pieces.

While budding superstar, Jayson Tatum, may have never suited up alongside Thomas, fellow foundational centerpiece, Jaylen Brown, certainly has, as did the team’s heart and soul, Marcus Smart, and former All-Star, Al Horford, all of whom have had nothing but glowing things to say about the 5-9 messiah.

Even President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens–who was the coach of the Celtics during Thomas’ tenure–recently found himself publicly fawning over the former 2x All-Star.

While he may have been able to escape any serious long-term complications, Smart’s initially scary non-contact injury against the Philadelphia 76ers should have been seen as a semi-wakeup call for, though they recently just added a supremely talented guard in Derrick White at this year’s deadline, should one of these main backcourt contributors go down, the most important position in the game today would be severely lacking in the established talent department.

Say what you will about Thomas’ last year of production in the NBA (which, mind you, is a total of just eight games with three different teams), but the last time he actually found a semi-stable place of residence he produced to a solid tune of 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game on 41 percent shooting from deep (2019-20 in 40 games with the Washington Wizards).

If an Isaiah Thomas signing only had the potential to positively benefit the team’s over culture this year, then it would still be a concept worth considering.

However, because we strongly believe he still has something left in the tank when it comes to producing on the hardwood, especially in a place he has found so much success in the past, the idea becomes a whole lot more entertaining to consider.
