The 2022 NBA trade deadline was a masterclass display for a first-year executive in former head coach Brad Stevens, who continues to maneuver in ways reminiscent of his predecessor Danny Ainge.

Something he is doing that Ainge did with great frequency during his stint as the Boston Celtics General Manager for nearly two decades is create traded player exceptions. Stevens arguably loves creating them more than Ainge.

The likelihood of using them increases with the Celtics’ success, which has been plentiful with the calendar flipped to 2022.

The Boston Celtics bring back Marcus Morris with the Evan Fournier TPE

You really can’t write off Brad Stevens bringing anyone back. Even Marcus Morris, who was a part of the locker-room dysfunction in 2018-19.

Cut the man slack, though. That was years ago, and Morris has since been the #1 option on the New York Knicks before serving as a valuable role player on the Los Angeles Clippers the last two seasons.

One of those seasons was without Kawhi Leonard and still included a Western Conference finals appearance. Morris was a pivotal reason why.

While Morris was effective in his first Cs stint in the starting five, he could be in a more muted way this time around in the second unit.
