Boston Celtics: 3 reasons why Robert Williams will be a future All-Star
Reason Robert Williams will be an All-Star No. 3) Increased team chemistry
In Brad Stevens’ first major move as a general manager, he made a trade with Oklahoma City in which he acquired former Boston Celtics player, Al Horford.
Now, in his most recent trade right at the deadline, Stevens made a similar move but this time with former Celtic, Daniel Theis.
At first glance, these moves might not be too big.
But then you realize that the young Rob Williams has been teammates with both of these players.
Maybe Brad Stevens is looking to place these veterans around Williams to make him more comfortable and maybe even to mentor the young center.
It’s not far-fetched to say that Williams is the best center out of the three, but it also makes sense if Stevens was looking to develop Williams mentally with the use of veterans.
But not only is the chemistry there with Horford and Theis.
Last year, Jayson Tatum called Robert Williams his “favorite to play with.”
At the time, people probably didn’t think much of it, but just recently Tatum told reporters that Williams was “on the right path” in regard to becoming an All-Star.
He also said that “Rob has the potential to win Defensive Player of the Year.”
The young center is also becoming more of a vocal leader as his career advances. In another quote from Tatum back in October, he said how Williams wasn’t much of a vocal leader his first year in the league, but now, “he’s directing guys on both ends, talking on the bench.”
Back in August, the Boston Celtics extended Williams to a multi-year deal. Fast forward to February, and it’s looking like the C’s made a pretty good decision.
