Just two days away from the NBA Trade Deadline, talks are heating up around the league as teams are posturing to improve their postseason seeding as others are aiming to cash in on assets ahead of a rebuild. The Boston Celtics are now in the former group after a 13-6 run so far in 2022 has them in a position to be buyers at the deadline.

Which makes their latest pursuit an intriguing one.

We know the Cs have practically zero chance of re-signing Dennis Schroder this offseason due to the lack of cap space likely needed to satisfy the German floor general’s salary demands. We also know that the team can still get value in return if they negotiate with the right contender.

It appears that the perfect Schroder swap is being discussed, but there’s a caveat…

Should the Boston Celtics pass or pursue a Dennis Schroder trade with Milwaukee?

Donte DiVincenzo is having a down year from the field after returning from an ankle injury suffered in last year’s playoffs that caused him to miss the team’s eventual  NBA championship run.

That said, he has proven to be an effective two-way player pre-injury and could be a long-term piece in the Cs rotation on the wing.

So why does Hardwood Houdini want to run as far away from this deal as possible? Because Grant Williams should be a non-starter in this situation.

Williams is in the midst of his best season yet and is a legitimate floor-spacer that’s willing to muck it up in the paint. He is under team control for one more season before being eligible for an extension, but should be offered one this offseason for how vital he’s been.

Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations should talk with other front offices about Dennis Schroder if this is where the Milwaukee Bucks stand in negotiations.

Verdict: Pass if Grant Williams is a deal-breaker.

dark. Next. Will the Raptors pursue a Robert Williams trade?
