Now that the Boston Celtics are consistently putting together wins, having won 13 of their 19 games so far in 2022, the rumor mill is starting to normalize.

Jaylen Brown’s name–which has been mentioned in trade rumors along with the likes of Ben Simmons and John Collins in hypothetical swaps–is one that very few expect to see gracing a headline during the NBA trade deadline.

Marcus Smart mock trades are still circulating, but the wing’s return from injury has been a catalyst for the team’s catapult.

So while Robert Williams’ breakout season has HoopsHabit thinking a deal could be possible for a surging young team like the Toronto Raptors, HH’s Dalton Sell ultimately realizes that such a deal is unlikely:

"Though Williams would be a tremendous pickup for the Raptors, it does not seem likely that the Celtics would entertain any trade discussions for their promising young center. He has a contract extension on the horizon worth $48 million over four years, and if Williams continues developing this quickly, that deal could prove to be a steal for Boston. It would be incredibly shocking to see the Celtics trade Williams, especially to a division rival."

Toronto is currently in the #6 seed after missing the postseason during their one-season stay in Tampa last year, and they have been led by the first undrafted All-Star since Ben Wallace, Fred VanVleet.

Between VanVleet, Paschal Siakam, O.G. Anounoby, Gary Trent Jr., and Scottie Barnes, the Raptors have a core that could make noise in the postseason as an underdog disruptor. The ‘Time Lord’ would be the perfect final piece of the puzzle, but he’s too integral for the Boston Celtics to part with at this point.

Toronto is more likely to land a Myles Turner or a Jusuf Nurkic then put together the kind of package it’d take to pry Williams away from Brad Stevens and co.

dark. Next. Would the Cs trade Marcus Smart for John Collins?
