Boston Celtics takeaway No. 3) So, we’re just not gonna have a point guard?

One of the many oddities from this game was Dennis Schroeder being benched for a large chunk in the fourth. The Boston Celtics ran a very unorthodox five out there with no point guard at the helm.

The five were Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, and Al Horford.

This five could not buy a bucket during a seven-minute stretch of no made field goals to end the outing.

Watching the game, seeing Tatum and Brown dribbling the ball up the court felt wrong from a basketball standpoint.

Ideally, neither of the Jays should be shouldering your primary ball-handling/playmaking duties — we needed a steady point to calm our offense down.

We were playing erratically and not getting good quality shots. To my dismay, it took the coach until the minute mark to finally sub Dennis in for the last few possessions.

I cannot remember if I have ever seen the Boston Celtics play that long without a point guard on the floor.

This is where you miss Marcus Smart because you can manage the minutes in the fourth to where you either close with him or Schroeder. In any event, you always have a primary ball-handler/playmaker on the floor.

You cannot lead an army into battle without a floor general. We were sure going to crumble at the feet of our opponents.

I hope we can all appreciate the importance of the role a point guard plays.
That historically tragic offensive collapse you watched Friday night was basketball without a point guard, i.e. unorganized chaos.

We can only hope this is not a pattern.
