The Boston Celtics lost on the national stage this past Wednesday, but they haven’t been punished in the standings in the aftermath. The Toronto Raptors have lost two straight, and the New York Knicks are on a three-game losing streak.

Tonight, though, would be an inexcusable loss that would force Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens to make a move stat simply to save face.

The Portland Trail Blazers enter tonight’s contest as surprising winners of five of the nine games they’ve been without Damian Lillard, who needed abdominal surgery. That said, both Norm Powell and Larry Nance Jr. will be absent as well.

Boston might not have Marcus Smart in the lineup but definitely won’t have either of the newly acquired players in the Juan Hernangomez trade, Bol Bol and P.J. Dozier. It’s unclear if we’ll even see those two in a Cs uniform, though Stevens is certainly speaking of Bol like he is.

Hardwood Houdini has a prediction, odds, and TV information for Friday night’s matchup at the TD Garden:

Celtics vs. Blazers prediction

This should be a chalked up W for Boston. But the franchise’s luck has been down in the dumps since the start of the 2021 calendar year. 2022 looks more of the same after the Hornets took it to them this past Wednesday for the nation to see on ESPN.

The ML isn’t much a payout, though, and the Celtics are still not to be trusted to cover such a spread, even against an opponent like Portland.

We’ll take the under lean with so much talent missing for the Trail Blazers.

Pick: 213.5u (-110)
