Throughout the 2021-22 season thus far, the Boston Celtics have found themselves constantly either floating above or sinking below a .500 record and now, as of this writing, they’re actually stationed smack dab in the middle between the two at 22-22.
This, of course, is not the level of success many had envisioned the shamrocks achieving when heading into the year and now, should they wish to turn things around and start inching their way back towards respectability, major shakeups must be made to their rotation and talent pool.
Because of this, many fans and media pundits alike have gone about and concocted schemes and lists discussing mid-season moves the C’s could make to land specific complimentary talents for the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and, just recently, the folks at Bleacher Report went about and stated that Boston could actually prove to be one of the most intriguing landing spots for one of this year’s most buzzed about talents that could potentially be available on the market.
That player: Buddy Hield.
Citing the team’s need for more of a scoring punch within the rotation, writer Dan Favale believes the hot-shooting Hield could be a fantastic grab for the offensively-inept Celtics.
"Few teams are more thoroughly disappointing than the 2021-22 Boston Celtics (shoutout, Atlanta!). Their offense is so often out of sorts, an uninspiring operation desperate for a truer floor general and lights-out shooting.Buddy Hield takes care of the latter. He attempts more than nine threes per game and knocks them down at a 38 percent clip, a marriage of volume and efficiency that takes many forms—off the dribble, around screens, in transition, at standstills, the whole nine. The Celtics, meanwhile, rank 22nd in points scored per possession, 18th in half-court efficiency and 24th in three-point accuracy. To say they’d welcome Hield’s flame-throwing and gravity would be the mother of all understatements."
For what seems like forever, we here at HH have actually be rather high on the concept of seeing the Boston Celtics trade for the guard, and just recently stated that Brad Stevens and co. should look to pursue him by the deadline.
Currently on the year, the fiery spark-plug is posting sound per-game averages of 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and two assists on 38 percent shooting from deep whilst predominantly coming off the pine for the lowly Sacramento Kings.
Being that the C’s desperately need both a tertiary scoring option alongside the Jays as well as an efficient second-unit offensive initiator, should he be available at some point between now and February’s deadline, Stevens should absolutely consider dealing for the sixth-year pro, for he’d almost certainly be able to serve as the answer to both of these aforementioned needs.
