A 3-step trade deadline plan for the Boston Celtics
The second deal adds more scoring to the bench in the form of a lights-out sharpshooter who once teamed up with Jayson Tatum.
That’d be his former Duke Blue Devils teammate Luke Kennard. Kennard is currently on the Los Angeles Clippers shooting the lights out to the tune of a 43/44/88 shooting slash during the 2021-22.
Here’s how the Houdini would land Kennard:
Why the Boston Celtics do it
This would be a great get for the Cs for Dennis Schroder’s expiring contract, which doesn’t have a clear landing spot this coming February.
It’s a shame. If Boston was better, Schroder wouldn’t have to go anywhere. If the team was a contender, Schroder is the exact type of player they’d likely be looking to landing. Instead, they’re going to have to mine some sort of value for his deal.
Luke Kennard would be a tremendous return piece for Schroder’s bird rights-lacking expiring deal, and Brad Stevens would prove to be pretty damn good at his job if he can pawn Juan Hernangomez off on the Los Angeles Clippers here too.
The younger Hernangomez brother could well see a career resurgence on a Clippers team that’s been known to elevate role players in recent seasons.
