Potential free agent #4 the Boston Celtics could pursue: Ed Davis
It seems as though Ed Davis’ value on the Cleveland Cavaliers was far overstated when the team signed the veteran big man to a minimum deal this past summer.
With Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Lauri Markkanen having all proven worthy of big minutes, and behind them Kevin Love and Lamar Stevens–another guy whose deal will most certainly be guaranteed on Friday–doing the same, Davis is behind even Tacko Fall on the depth chart.
Any chance to contribute will be elsewhere, and given his 2.3 blocks per-36 minutes this season, his rim-protection would be welcomed on a team with less stability in the frontcourt. Boston fits that dubious bill.
Potential free agent #5 the Boston Celtics could pursue: DeMarcus Cousins
‘Boogie’ ending up on the Milwaukee Bucks gave us hope that he could one day suit up for the Celtics since those two teams seem to have a lot of crossover. DeMarcus Cousins had been playing exclusively in better weather cities like Los Angeles, Oakland, and Houston, but the Cs seem more realistic for the veteran now.
Truthfully, the Bucks should hold onto him, but if he somehow slips through the cracks…and let’s be honest, he seems more likely too than other prospective slam-dunk re-signings…then Brad Stevens needs to sell Cousins on adding facilitation to the frontcourt on a Cs squad that could use improved passing at all positions.
