While technically speaking it’s a factual statistic that the Boston Celtics are undefeated in 2022, when just a smidge of context is included one will find that this is only based on a one-game time span where the shamrocks had to go into overtime against the bottom-dwelling Orlando Magic to pull out a win.

From opening night’s tip-off till now, Boston has played an unbelievably pedestrian brand of basketball and, as a result, finds itself boasting a sub-.500 record of 18-19.

While there is still a solid amount of time for Ime Udoka‘s squad to make their way back up towards the higher levels of the Eastern Conference standings, these remaining 45 games could certainly find themselves breezing by, especially if their losing ways continue to roll along.

To the majority of fans and media outlets alike, it’s rather evident that should the Boston Celtics wish to see a shift in their fortunes the front office is going to have to make some shakeups and a popular means of achieving this is by taking part in some in-season trades.

While we at HH have our own opinions about what we believe should happen between now and February’s deadline, recently the folks at Bleacher Report put their two cents into the discussion and labeled offseason acquisition, Dennis Schroder, as the player they believe Boston ‘needs to trade.’

Citing their losing record and lackluster offensive production through the first 37 games of action, writer Dan Favale believes the C’s should be viewed as sellers during this year’s trade season, and, as a result, Brad Stevens and co. should consider flipping their free agency steal for longer-term assets:

"Dennis Schroder, of course, is a must-shop no matter what the Celtics do. He fell into their lap over the summer after his free-agent market imploded, and they don’t have the financial flexibility to keep him beyond this season.Boston can offer Schroder 120 percent of the mini mid-level exception he’s earning now before needing cap space or the larger MLE to retain him. The Celtics don’t have a prayer of carving out the former, and he isn’t sticking around for the sub-$7.1 million they can sling using his non-Bird rights.Dangling the bigger $10.1 million MLE might get the job done, but they must first waive Al Horford for $14.5 million if they’re going to have enough wiggle room under the tax to access it.Moral of the story: Schroder is a goner after this year. Boston should see what an aggressive buyer will pony up to rent him for part of the season."

On the year, Schroder is putting up solid averages of 16.5 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Unfortunately, however, his play has not managed to improve the team’s overall production and, being that he’s on an expiring deal, Favale believes the Boston Celtics may wish to cash in on his value and trade him for assets now rather than waiting for the offseason and, most likely, lose him for nothing.

Though we have grown rather fond of Dennis Schroder during his young tenure with the franchise, from a logical standpoint dealing him actually might actually make the most sense for the Cs, and, by all accounts, there should be quite a number of teams that could be interested in bringing on his services.
