It’s a new year, but one Boston Celtics storyline that will cross over from 2021 into 2022 is the potential for a Dennis Schroder deal ahead of this season’s trade deadline.

Schroder hasn’t been the answer at the 1 the Cs were hoping for, and predictably, the shoot-first floor general is not creating enough ball movement to make the ‘Jays’ pairing as proficient as it could be. Instead, he is hunting for shots in a contract-year with the hopes of cashing out in the offseason.

The solution is obviously phoning every team that has the goal of making the postseason and aiming to acquire either a win-now piece or a can’t miss prospect.

Did this NBA Analysis Network mock trade accomplish that?

"Boston Celtics Receive: G Josh Green, Two Second Round PicksDallas Mavericks Receive: G Dennis Schroder, G Romeo Langford"

Well, at first glance, it’s certainly one that lacks any pieces that would push Boston up the totem pole. Josh Green doesn’t look all that close to completing his graduation from ‘project’ status as a prospect. A pair of second round picks is also a modest return for Schroder, who may be worth a first-round pick to the right team.

Add onto that Romeo Langford, who has thus far shown more on the floor as a pro than Green has to this point, and this deal is one that Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens would have to pass on.

If the Mavs are so inclined as to want Schroder, Stevens should ask for Brunson at a minimum. Dorian Finney-Smith would be an excellent defensive-minded addition, but the likelihood of Dallas parting with the Florida product isn’t great.

A larger deal involving guys like Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis could also make more sense. This would be a front office folly if Stevens and co. agreed to it.
