If the Boston Celtics haven’t made a new year’s resolution yet, their goal for 2022 should be to avoid having a repeat 2021.

After making the Eastern Conference finals down in the Lake Buena Vista bubble in the fall of 2020, the Cs fell apart last season en route to a .500 record and a gentleman’s sweep in the postseason in 2020-21. They’ve followed that up with a 16-19 record so far this season. A loss today knocks them out of an NBA Play-in tournament slot.

This can’t go on in 2022.

Before we get to the year of three two’s, though, we have one more matchup in 2021. The Phoenix Suns, tied for the league’s best record with the Golden State Warriors, are coming to town after splitting their last four games. Boston is looking to snap a three-game losing streak of their own.

Do they get that done to give Cs fans a sliver of hope heading into the new year? Hardwood Houdini is here to dish out some holiday odds, TV channel info, and a prediction ahead of Friday’s matinee action:

Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns odds, spread, over/under

According to WynnBet, the Celtics are 4.5-point underdogs against the Suns at home. Phoenix is a -180 favorite on the road, with the Cs moneyline set at +150. The over/under for the game has been placed at 215 points.

Bally Sports Arizona and NBC Sports Boston own the local television rights to this one. NBA League Pass is your best bet if you’re not in-market.

Celtics vs. Suns prediction

It’s been a tough year for Boston Celtics bettors. This team has lost so many games they shouldn’t have that betting the ML against the Phoenix Suns feels like burning money.

At the spread, the Cs actually own a winning record in 2021-22, though. With Deandre Ayton and JaVale McGee out, this one seems winnable in the trenches.

And yet, the Houdini doesn’t feel confidence in them even doing that. With Phoenix likely relying on perimeter scoring, pushing the pace and putting up plenty of 3-pointers could be their best way to get points up on the board.

This one feels like a possible over hit to send fans out on a high (scoring) note in 2021.

Pick: 215o (-110)
