At some point in the near future, the Boston Celtics are going to have to make some sort of shakeup if they wish to turn the corner on this pedestrian 2021-22 season and, in turn, start playing at the level that is expected from a team that finds itself rostering two All-Stars.

Since the turn of the page on the calendar to January of 2021, the shamrocks have proven to be a truly underwhelming ball club, boasting an overall record of 63-66 during this time span and now, through 31 games played this year, hold a measly record of  15-16, slotting them in at just ninth overall in the Eastern Conference standings.

Because of this, in order to avoid having another sub-par season turn out like they did last year (finished with a .500 record and were bounced from the first round of the playoffs via gentleman’s sweep), Brad Stevens and co. have to figure out a way to better equip this ball club for success and perhaps the most oft-mentioned course of action they could embark on is via in-season trading.

Over the past several months, there have been a plethora of players linked as being potential trade targets that the Cs could and should look to pursue at some point this year, with names ranging from simple role players to flat-out stars.

Arguably the most popular name that has been attached to the C’s trade rumor mill of late has been Pacers stud big man, Domantas Sabonis, who, according to recent rumblings, could be looking for a way out of Indianapolis.

Recently, the folks at Bleacher Report came up with a way in which the All-Star could ultimately get his wish as writer, Greg Swartz, concocted a deal that would send him to the Boston Celtics.

The exact package reads as follows:

Citing the team’s need for added firepower around the Jays, Swartz believes that this deal, despite the fact that it may be tough losing a guy like Marcus Smart, could easily prove to be worth it for the Cs:

"For Boston, this is a chance to add a star without giving up Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown and make a serious run toward the top of the East.Sabonis is a two-time All-Star and one of the best passing big men in the NBA. He is also under contract for two more seasons after this one, giving Boston a core (along with Robert Williams III) that has a chance to play together for a long time.Giving up Smart hurts, but getting Sabonis in return would be worth it."

Now, while we certainly agree that parting ways with Smart may prove to be a difficult thing to do, if it means getting a guy of Sabonis’ magnitude we believe it could easily prove to be worth it in the long run.

In fact, this proposed move could wind up being an absolute steal for the Boston Celtics.

Though Indiana has had an unbelievably underwhelming season turnout thus far, the power forward’s production has been anything but as he once again finds himself putting up stellar all-around averages of 18.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 59 percent shooting from the floor.

With him in tow, Boston would have themselves an unbelievably formidable Big-3 that would prove to be an absolute problem for an opposing defense every single night.

As we constantly find ourselves saying when it comes to the hypothetical alliance of Tatum, Brown, and Sabonis, the Jays would go on to patrol the perimeter and drive the lane when they see an opening while the big man would man the interior and, with his specific bag of tricks, could either feast in the paint, step out and space the floor a bit, or could simply look to dish it out with his underrated passing skills (averaging 5.5 assists per night over the past three seasons) as he can oversee virtually everyone on the floor due to his 6-11 frame.

There’s a reason we’re constantly seeing fans and media pundits pushing for a Domantas Sabonis trade and, should the Boston Celtics be able to get a deal like this off, it would be a no-brainer idea for them to accept.
