Boston Celtics: 3 realistic trade targets to help form C’s next Big-3
By Mark Nilon
If you thought that their on-court production was inconsistent then the rumor mill and media coverage surrounding the Boston Celtics can only be described as straight-up incoherent, for one second reports would have us believe the team feels completely fine about their current makeup while the next it’ll have the entire fanbase prepping for a potential full-on teardown of their core.
Take this entire week for example, where, early on, some rumblings took the Boston sports world by storm, suggesting that there are some ‘in the know’ who are under the impression that the Cs could be pondering the idea of splitting up the Jays and now, as of this writing, it is being reported that, instead of breaking up their dynamic duo, Brad Stevens and co. are ‘chasing a third star’ to pair alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Frankly, we are MUCH more convinced that Boston’s decision-makers are more inclined to embark on the latter route and, should this actually be the case, we at HH believe there are 3 players, in specific, they should pursue in order to formulate the league’s next Big-3:
Boston Celtics target No. 1) Domantas Sabonis
Perhaps the biggest name mentioned when it has come to actually realistic trade targets for the team, many are intrigued by the concept of seeing Domantas Sabonis come to the Boston Celtics to join forces with fellow stars Tatum and Brown.
A 2x All-Star selection who, despite Indiana’s lowly season turnout thus far appears to be headed towards his third straight, the 25-year-old has proven himself to be one of the best bigs in the NBA today what with his sound scoring game, impressive court vision, and high-end basketball IQ.
Through 30 games played, the power forward finds himself boasting stellar all-around averages of 18.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals on nearly 60 percent shooting from the field.
This hypothetical Big-3 would be able to cover virtually every area of the court on offense, which would cause some serious problems for opposing defenses.
The Jays would go on to patrol the perimeter and drive the lane when they see an opening while the four would man the interior and, with his specific bag of tricks, could either feast in the paint, step out and space the floor a bit, or could simply look to dish it out with his underrated passing skills (averaging 5.5 assists per night over the past three seasons) as he can simply oversee the floor due to his 6-11 frame.
Right around the age of both Brown (24) and Tatum (23), Domantas Sabonis would not only be a major asset for this season but hopefully for the several seasons to come in their young and promising careers.
