While yes, the Boston Celtics ended their losing slide with an inspiring double-digit victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, there is no definitive proof that this team is good enough not to consider a Dennis Schroder swap at the trade deadline.

Schroder is impressing in his first season with the Cs…to the point that it may be safe calling it his last. Boston is limited from a financial flexibility standpoint due to all of the bloated contracts on the books this coming offseason, so signing Schroder with cap space is out of the question. Marcus Smart, the ‘Jays’, Al Horford, Josh Richardson, and Robert Williams alone put the Celtics over the salary cap.

As for another MLE type deal, Schroder is playing his way out of being stuck in that salary bracket. 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds per game earn you a lot more than that on the open market.

So, what happens next with President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens’ low-risk, high-value offseason asset?

Chris Forsberg believes the Boston Celtics could offer Dennis Schroder for Delon Wright or Trey Burke.

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg threw out a few names for a Dennis Schroder swap, though with the caveat that enough losing could mean that a future draft pick holds more value than them:

"One other thing the Celtics should consider: Can they ship Schroder to an upgrade-seeking contender and get back a shooter who might be retainable beyond this season? Could they call Atlanta about Delon Wright? Dallas about Trey Burke? Is that more valuable to Boston than simply a second-round pick?"

So what does the Houdini think about those names?

Well, Trey Burke is intriguing as one half of the return that Boston could bring back on a Dennis Schroder trade. Making $3.1 million, he could be added to another player, like Sterling Brown or Boban Marjanovic to match salaries with the German floor general. Either another player or a draft pick makes this a remotely fair swap.

As for Delon Wright? That could be a seriously low-risk, high-reward play that could bring back a potential starting quality guard. Wright averaged 10 points, 3.6 assists, and four rebounds with the Sacramento Kings just a season ago on a 46/40/83 shooting slash.

Forsberg is on to something here if Brad Stevens must mine value on his veteran point guard sporting an expiring contract.
