The Boston Celtics should trade for Domantas Sabonis, says S.C.I.C

As the Indiana Pacers continue to drop down lower towards the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference, many are discussing the concept of the front office simply opting to blow the roster up, sending their more valuable commodities elsewhere in exchange for assets that could aid in a potential rebuild, and the Boston Celtics are often finding themselves linked as a ball club that can help expedite this process.

Due to their own underwhelming start to the year, it is the belief of the majority of Cs fandom that Brad Stevens and co. should strongly consider making some roster bolstering trades to help them save their season from enduring a similar, or perhaps an even worse fate than what we saw in 2020-21.

We at the Houdini are certainly open to this aforementioned agenda, and even think that there are quite a number of Pacers players who should be viewed as viable targets for this team.

Our own sister site, Sir Charles In Charge, also seems to share this mindset with us and recently listed the Boston Celtics as one of five teams in the association that should be actively trying to trade for Indiana’s star big man, Domantas Sabonis, at some point prior to February’s trade deadline.

Citing the team’s need to add more talent around franchise cornerstones Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, writer Christopher Giovine suggests that, not only would bringing on the young stud power forward create a formidable Big-3 in Beantown, but it would also easily give Ime Udoka’s squad one of the best frontcourts in the entire association:

"The Boston Celtics are floundering this year, and they have not found a way to play consistently. Many around the league still wonder if Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum can play together. If the Celtics were to add Sabonis, it would give Boston one of the best frontcourts in the league. The deal would likely need to include Robert Williams and Marcus Smart. Losing Williams and Smart would be beneficial financially for the Celtics and overall play. Smart is still a loose cannon on offense, and Williams is still developing.Going from a center still finding his footing in Williams to an All-Star in Sabonis is a no-brainer. The Celtics have Horford under contract guarantees the Celtics will have an above-average big man playing for all 48 minutes a game."

Despite Indiana’s lowly season turnout thus far, Domantas Sabonis has been one of the team’s lone bright spots, as he’s been putting up impressive averages of 18.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 58 percent shooting from the field.

Acquiring the likes of the 2x All-Star would not only make the C’s talent pool better for the remainder of the season, but also for the next several years to come, for he’s still only 25-years-old and is under contract through 2024.

The folks at Sir Charles in Charge are under the impression that trading for Sabonis should be an idea worth considering for the shamrocks, as we at HH couldn’t agree more.
