While watching the Boston Celtics find themselves on the wrong end of a one-sided matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers last night–one the Cs valiantly fought back but ultimately fell three points short in–Hardwood Houdini harkened back to the good ol’ days of the 2018-19 season.

Marcus Morris was the primary reason why, as he co-starred alongside Brandon Boston in the Clippers’ victory that propelled them past the previous night’s loss for Boston (not Brandon, the city’s professional basketball franchise) in the same

Crypto.com Arena. Morris finished with 20 points on the second-most shots in the game behind Reggie Jackson in the Paul George-less and Kawhi Leonard-less triumph for L.A.

Morris was a key component of that 49-win team, the last Cs team the league took seriously as a legitimate contender. Even the following year’s team didn’t garner the same respect falling short of the 2020 NBA Finals by two games.

Some believe he was one of the many toxic elements of that year’s team, and HH has been bearish on the idea of Morris returning because of it.

But after the past two years of human life, it’s about letting bygones be bygones. If Morris can return and help the Cs win, Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens needs to consider it. With there being the belief that the ‘Jays’ (and Celtics in general) lack that ‘dog’ mentality, Morris could once again provide that while also being a dependable tertiary scoring option.

Reggie Jackson could also be a featured option on many nights. While his shooting efficiency is down from last season, he is still helping to commandeer the Clippers offense…especially on night’s when Paul George isn’t in uniform.

With the Cs sliding down the standings, the Houdini is making some mock trade fireworks to shake things up around the ‘Jays’ to land these two current Clips:

Why the Boston Celtics do it

Well, I certainly pulled the wool over your eyes thinking this deal would solely bring back just Morris (as a potential starting 4) and Reggie Jackson (the point guard replacement for Smart/Schroder) to Beantown.

Boston would also be coming to Boston, too.

Brandon Boston showed last night that he could be a breakout wing on the Clippers, scoring 27 points in 25 minutes on 9/13 shooting. Unfortunately, Terance Mann also has that spot on lock. When Kawhi Leonard comes back, all there won’t be enough time for all of these athletic wings to thrive.

Jason Preston is a former Fansider that the Houdini would love to see make his NBA debut with the Celtics, because he has only played in the NBA G-League with the Clippers organization.

Why the Los Angeles Clippers do it

The Los Angeles Clippers would be making a move for two likely starters in Dennis Schroder and Marcus Smart that would arguably raise their defensive ceiling even higher when Kawhi Leonard returns. That focus on that end of the floor could be the necessary strategy to make the big run Ty Lue has made in his coaching career before.

Romeo Langford helps in that regard as well. Perhaps he could find more success with the L.A. training staff. Juan Hernangomez is a salary filler throw-in that could also maybe find success again elsewhere.
