Boston Celtics dud: Dennis Schroder

Sometimes players relish in their first return to a former employer’s arena; other times, players simply crumble.

The veteran guard wound up doing the latter, as he simply could not find his groove all night, despite logging the third-most minutes on the night for the shamrocks.

Dennis Schroder played like an absolute shell of himself during his first visit back to the Staples Center since departing from the Lakers this offseason and signing with the Celtics.

A player who has made a career for himself as being an offensive-minded initiator and, through his last eight outings has averaged 19.5 points on 45 percent shooting from the floor and 41 percent shooting from deep, the 29-year-old struggled the entire game with his shot, converting on just one of his six attempts from the field.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, the veteran guard found himself boasting a rather pedestrian statistical log of 10 points and five assists on just 16.7 percent shooting from the field while struggling to stop so much as a nosebleed on defense, allowing Russell Westbrook to absolutely erupt and get to the basket with relative ease throughout the exhibition.

His lackluster performance coupled with the 25 point and 11 assist stat-line put forth by both his assignment and replacement is certainly nothing to feel good about if you’re Schroder.

All he can do now is simply move on and look to get back on track against the Clippers.
