Boston Celtics: Studs and a dud from blowout win over Portland Trail Blazers
Boston Celtics dud: Robert Williams
It certainly wasn’t any bit of a standout stinker for Robert Williams against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night, but the ‘Time Lord’ was easily the least impressive Celtic in big minutes last night.
Williams ended playing less minutes than Enes Freedom due to foul trouble, and almost ended up with a disqualification because of it, finishing with five fouls total. The 2018 first-round pick hit both of his field goal attempts but was the only net negative in the starting lineup.
The Cs played so well on Saturday night against the undermanned Trail Blazers that their one dud ended up with three blocks in 21 minutes. Williams was still a force in the paint even in somewhat limited minutes on that end of the floor.
Without Al Horford, it was important for Williams to step up, but if Freedom has to rise in those situations and it gets the desired results, then so be it.
Moving forward, Boston can’t afford to not get more from their post anchor. Williams is the #3 most important player in the lineup behind the ‘Jays’. Tonight was a fine group effort, but it can’t become anything resembling the norm.
