Just because the Boston Celtics are on a winning streak, doesn’t mean a trade won’t happen during the 2021-22 season.

At 10-8, Boston is just three games back of the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. That said, they could lose their next few and be outside of the postseason picture quickly, currently sitting a game ahead of the #11 seed in the east.

If you want to talk about upgrades, the most obvious position of need is the point guard spot. Marcus Smart at the 1 has been an experiment that has yielded decent results, with his distribution numbers sitting at 5.4 dishes per game. Behind him, Dennis Schroder has similarly been solid, sitting a hair under five assists per game himself.

But both can be turnover-prone and fall into bad shot-taking habits. Come playoff time, Boston Celtics fans everywhere could end up with spiking levels of anxiety with that duo taking too many shots away from the ‘Jays’.

That’s why pursuing a point guard could be Brad Stevens’ best course of action before it even gets that far.

And Celtics Wire’s Justin Quinn has the perfect name for Cs fans looking for a substantial upgrade at the position:

"Star Sacramento point guard De’Aaron Fox has been having a rough start in terms of efficiency as has many stars around the league, including Boston’s Jayson Tatum. Unlike Tatum, Fox’s game hasn’t improved much yet. And with a surplus of guards on the team’s roster, he might be a trade candidate according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.Should the Celtics inquire about Fox’s availability? Even with his rough start, he’s playing about as well if not better than any guard on Boston’s roster (19.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game) save for his atrocious accuracy from deep (24.4%), while just 23 years old."

De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton are redundant to have on the same roster for the Sacramento Kings. Both clearly deserve to be starting floor generals, but recently fired Luke Walton and Alvin Gentry are pigeon-holing the pair into the starting lineup together. There’s really no reason both Buddy Hield and Davion Mitchell are reserves.

Sacramento looks like they’re on the precipice of another teardown, since using the term ‘rebuild’ would dictate that there hasn’t been a 15-year postseason drought in California’s capital city.

If that is the case, a Fox trot to Boston would give the Cs a ‘big three’ with guys from the 2016/2017 drafts that could compete together for a long time.

Sign the Houdini up for that, even if Fox’s 3-point shooting has reached career-low levels in 2021-22.
