Boston Celtics dud: Marcus Smart

Like Grant Williams, Marcus Smart is a player that can either be praised or scorned depending on how he fairs in the shooting department.

Unlike Williams, however, Wednesday was not the guard’s night in this aspect of the game, as he couldn’t seem to buy a bucket for the vast majority of his time spent on the floor.

Not recording his first points till the dwindling seconds of the third (via free-throws), Smart finished the night with eight points on just 30 percent shooting from the field while going a woeful 0-4 shooting from deep.

Now yes, though the veteran’s shot was not falling he did wind up getting his teammates involved on this end of the court as he managed to dish out a season-high 11 assists.

While this is obviously a positive from an overall bleak outing, the point guard’s shooting struggles seemed to outshine this impressive distribution display, as he seemed almost reluctant to look for a score on his own, attempting just two shots in the first half while passing up on quite a number in the second, especially during the third period when they could have used his aggressiveness the most.

With Brown out, the Boston Celtics need all hands on deck on the offensive side of the ball and, as one of the core figures on this team, Marcus Smart needs to figure out a way to get out of his scoring slump, otherwise we’ll likely be looking at similar outcomes to this one until the All-Star returns to action.
