Team that could look to trade for Aaron Nesmith No. 2) Cleveland Cavaliers
Unlike the Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves off to a surprisingly solid start to this year’s campaign, going 9-5 through their first 14 games which, in turn, has them slotted in at the fourth seed out in the Eastern Conference standings.
The main protagonists for this ball club have come from both their backcourt and big men, specifically the likes of guards Darius Garland & Ricky Rubio and Jarrett Allen & Evan Mobley.
However, in between these areas within the rotation, the Cavs have seen some unimpressive production, specifically at the wing, despite having these players receive solid MPG averages.
Now, while we’re almost certain that the franchise is going to look into continuing their recent successes moving forward, we’re also rather confident that even they are a bit surprised by how well they’ve played thus far, for they’re a team who’s looking to the future and have dove quite deep into their youth movement.
Because of this, the front office should still be looking into stockpiling young assets to try and develop them into foundational players and we believe that a guy like Aaron Nesmith could be an intriguing target for them to consider pursuing.
Even with the fact that they already have a guy in Isaac Okoro that plays the same position as Nesmith and was even selected the same year, they still could use for someone in this area of the rotation that can space the floor with a clean and efficient shooting stroke — Okoro is not viewed as that guy, even when they took him fifth overall last year.
When the Boston Celtics selected him 14th overall in the 2020 draft, the wing was viewed by many as being arguably the best shooter and one of the best scorers him his respective class and, unfortunately, he has yet to showcase these skills on a consistent basis yet due to his lack of playing time for a team looking to contend.
On a team like Cleveland, however, he likely would get far more minutes as well as a larger role which could only stand to help his production.
As we stated earlier, despite their early-season successes they are still a squad looking to build for the future, and Aaron Nesmith could be of great interest to them as they continue building a foundation.
