The Boston Celtics failed to turn a corner Saturday night in Cleveland, blowing a 19 point lead in a 91-89 loss to the Cavaliers. This loss puts Boston back to 6-7, while the surging Cavs move to 9-5, third in the Eastern Conference.

The C’s have suffered their fair share of grueling losses this season. While this isn’t on the level of the Chicago loss, to have two losses of that caliber this early on in the season is a troubling sign.

There are positive signs to look at when it comes to this team, but the failure to close out games puts a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. If they end up winning, there’s no harm no foul — but this team has to learn how to maintain a lead, or else they’re going nowhere.

Boston has a chance to get revenge on the young Cleveland team on Monday. Let’s look at 3 takeaways to prepare us for their next matchup.

Boston Celtics takeaway No.1) Robert Williams is all the way back

Robert Williams had a bit of a shaky start to the season, but he had another splendid performance in this one, finishing with 12 points, 16 rebounds (five offensive), and three blocks.

He hit six of his seven attempts and is quickly becoming some of the C’s most reliable offense when they need a bucket.

He has developed chemistry with starting point guard Marcus Smart, connecting on multiple alley-oops in this contest. His wingspan and athleticism competes with anyone in the league, being able to finish any pass thrown in the vicinity of the rim.

Coach Ime Udoka challenged Rob to be more active on the offensive glass, and he has delivered the past couple of games.

With the offense largely struggling with the slow start of Jayson Tatum and the absence of Jaylen Brown, the extra possessions and opportunities that Williams provides keep Boston in many of these games.

This big man’s extension in the offseason is looking like a steal of a deal, as long as he stays healthy. He held his own in the midst of Cleveland’s jumbo-sized lineup, with both Jarrett Allen and rookie Evan Mobley in the frontcourt.

After tonight’s contest, Williams improved his to 76 percent from the field, keeping his pace of insane efficiency across his career.
