Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens had to play a little bit of damage control with his 1A superstar, Jaylen Brown.
Given the early season struggles this team has faced, that isn’t exactly the best news you want to hear…especially since we exist in an era where stars force trades just about every other month in the NBA.
Of course, hearing Brown’s calm, cool, and collected response is reassuring. But big market teams with baggage that lose games tend to make drastic moves, and Stevens has been trigger-happy in his new front-office role.
Should this season go further south, and the Cs ultimately end up severely underachieving, perhaps Stevens could look to land a game-changer…and perhaps said game-changer could require him and to gut Boston’s core.
Who would be worth doing that for? Well, that’s the question we explore today as HH lists 3 stars worth gutting the current core (Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams) for:
Star #1 worth acquiring for Boston Celtics core members: Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns seemingly swiped the Minnesota Timberwolves on social media. A Twitter user pointed out photos of tweets Towns ‘liked’ on the app with the hashtag #FreeKat, in reference to the center potentially being moved off of the Wolves.
Towns of course said it was fine and that he was ‘hacked’, but it’s been several seasons since Minnesota has gone to the postseason, and that only happened once in KAT’s six-year career so far.
If Towns is to be freed, Stevens shouldn’t hesitate on offering a package centered around Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams. Perhaps talks could even extend to include D’Angelo Russell’s and Marcus Smart’s contracts as well to keep KAT paired with his friend.
