The recent rumblings surrounding the Boston Celtics has been the report that Brad Stevens and co. have reached out to the Philadelphia 76ers in regard to the availability of estranged All-Star, Ben Simmons, who is actually rumored to be interested in such a move, per a league source (subscription required).

Since these storylines surfaced, however, as the week has progressed the commotion surrounding such a theoretical blockbuster has died down a bit, for it is stated that Philly’s asking price for their point guard is a bit steeper than what fans and media alike believe he’s worth at this point in time.

That said, just because the buzz may have lessened of late, this has not stopped some from coming up with ways in which Simmons could find his way to Eastern Massachusetts at some point in the near future.

In fact, our own sister site, the Sixers Sense, went about and concocted a hypothetical trade that would send the 25-year-old to Boston this year.

The proposed deal reads as follows:

Citing the fact that Jaylen Brown could be argued as being the better player between him and Ben Simmons, writer Lucas Johnson is under the impression that, in order to make such a swap become a reality, Philadelphia would have to “sweeten the pot” a bit to entice the shamrocks to even consider partaking in such an exchange:

"With that in mind, the Sixers would have to sweeten the pot for the Celtics to consider a trade involving Brown and Simmons. Getting two picks (a first and a second), plus a young prospect like Springer should be enough to get the Celtics seriously engaged.Hernangomez is just in there for salary filler as he hasn’t been a major player in Boston’s rotation. It should be noted that Hernangomez can’t be traded until November 14, 2021."

Despite the lowly start to the year for the Boston Celtics as a whole, Jaylen Brown has found himself absolutely dominating through these first few weeks of action.

In 36.5 minutes per night, the wing is posting stellar per-game averages of 25.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and half a block per game on 49 percent shooting from the floor and nearly 40 percent shooting from deep.

On the flip side, Ben Simmons has yet to log a single minute of action in 2021-22, as he made it abundantly clear that he would like to move on from the Sixers this past offseason and, in turn, has opted to hold out until a trade is ultimately made.

Last we saw the man play, he underperformed tremendously during the team’s second-round bout against the Atlanta Hawks and, because of this, is argued to have been the main reason for their elimination from the 2021 postseason.

All things considered, while we at HH are certainly not opposed to seeing the likes of Simmons being traded to the Boston Celtics — in fact, we think the right deal could actually save their season — the acquisition would only be truly worth it if they were to have him slotting into a lineup alongside the likes of both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Because of this, we are dead-set against seeing the Cs part ways with their talented wing in exchange for the disgruntled Sixers star and, in turn, think all talks revolving around this idea should be shut down by Boston indefinitely.
