Boston Celtics point guard target No. 2) Goran Dragic

While we’re certainly not opposed to seeing the Boston Celtics take part in a big blockbuster deal at some point this season, we also understand that they don’t necessarily have to go the trade route in order to bring on potentially impactful players for, realistically, there’s another avenue in which they can embark on: the buyout market.

As we get closer to and even move past the trade deadline, there are bound to be plenty of talents parting ways with their current ball clubs through these means, and one player who could be bound for this type of future is veteran guard, Goran Dragic.

Since his arrival in Toronto this past offseason (traded from Miami in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade) there has been a strong and ever-present sense that this pairing between him and the organization was not meant to last all that long.

Be it he’s bought out by the Raptors at some point this season or traded to another team at some point near the deadline and then bought out, one thing seems rather certain — Dragic is a legitimate candidate to find himself on the free-agent market prior to the end of this year’s campaign, and, if he winds up there, the Celtics should be interested in pursuing him.

A former All-Star with over 10 years of experience in the NBA, the point guard has made a name for himself as being a willing facilitator and a long-range sniper, both of which are things Boston could use within their lineup, especially in their backcourt.

Though he may be off to a rough start to the season, posting per-game averages of only six points and 1.5 assists per game on a lowly 22 percent shooting from deep, he is only a year removed from averaging 13.4 points and 4.4 assists per game on 37 percent shooting from beyond the arc whilst predominantly coming off the pine.

No, in comparison to many other players that could become available between now and year’s end (including the two other players found on this list) Dragic is not the sexy name that Cs fans wish to see the franchise pursue.

However, assuming he’d come at an unbelievably low cost, his skill set and proven expertise throughout his career could prove to be a solid addition to this team.
