Boston Celtics trade target No. 1)  Dejounte Murray

Trading a guy like Marcus Smart who, throughout his career, has proven capable of doing it all on the hardwood would be a bit of a challenging situation for a team like the Boston Celtics who, frankly, could use for a bit of everything themselves.

In order to soften such a blow of losing such a talent, perhaps they should consider pursuing someone of a similar ilk in San Antonio Spurs one, Dejounte Murray who, coming into the year, was already rumored to be “gettable” (subscription required) and, on top of this, has been a long-time favorite potential target by us here at the site.

Off to a career-best start this season, the sixth-year veteran is stuffing the stat sheet with stellar per-game averages of 18.4 points, 8.2 assists, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.1 steals on nearly 46 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

Truly one of the premier perimeter defenders in the game today, since coming into the league back in 2016 Murray has only improved through every season he’s suited up for (missed all of 2018-19 with a torn ACL).

Unfortunately, despite his tremendous efforts thus far, the Spurs are a measly four games under .500 at 3-7, slotting them into the 13th seed out in the Western Conference standings and, in turn, has them moseying right along towards their inevitable full-fledged rebuild phase.

Should they continue on this trend, San Antonio could wind up being all-out sellers come this year’s trade deadline and, should this turn out to be the case, the Boston Celtics should absolutely look into acquiring the 24-year-old Swiss Army man.
