Oh man, Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens is playing with fire right now.
Rumor has it that he is interested in dealing for Ben Simmons.
Oh, and that Jaylen Brown would need to be included in any deal.
Needless to say, if such a transaction went down after a 4-6 start to the season where Brown has averaged career-high scoring on career-high efficiency, Cs fans would burn it down:
Can't for the life of me understand why the Celtics would be interested in Ben Simmons https://t.co/GZ6Jr1WCg2

If we trade Jaylen Brown in a deal for Ben Simmons, I’m gonna need Brad Stevens fired immediately. #Celtics https://t.co/Ddh4vD0ald

If the #Celtics trade Jaylen Brown for Ben Simmons, I may be on the hunt for a new NBA team. https://t.co/KRu1xvfj6d

I’d love Ben Simmons on the Celtics. However if that deal has to include Jaylen Brown? Count me out. Jaylen is a consistently improving (on both ends) star, has been a t10 scorer this year, improving defensively, etc. Any other combination of players, count me in.

This conversation would likely be a very different one if Marcus Smart’s name was included in the rumor instead of Brown’s, though there would still likely be a great amount of anger surrounding the idea of breaking up the Boston Celtics core to bring in Simmons.
One has to wonder if we would have heard this rumor at all had the Cs taken care of business against the Dallas Mavericks this past Saturday. In that case, Boston would be on a three-game winning streak.
But now, we are hearing some rumors that, if were to come to fruition, would upset a large swath of fans who never want Simmons to ever play home games at the TD Garden.
