Possible Boston Celtics acquisition in a Ben Simmons deal #3: Matisse Thybulle

Finally, we end up with a player the Boston Celtics almost had themselves in the 2019 NBA Draft: Mattise Thybulle.

Notorious Celtics fan Bill Simmons sounded off on the draft night trade that swapped Thybulle with Carsen Edwards, who has since been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the Juan Hernangomez return package:

"“I don’t know what the hell is going on with this team,” Simmons said on his podcast. “I just want to also mention my dad is really upset after the draft. At one point he just texted me and said, ‘I’m going to bed.’ That was it. He was done with the night.”"

Thybulle has developed into a much more useful player than Thybulle has over the past few seasons, to the point that Thybulle starts games for one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams and Edwards is now in the G-League, having been released by the Grizzlies.

Thybulle would add a defense first swingman that would make Josh Richardson expendable, assuming he wasn’t involved in this hypothetical Ben Simmons trade to begin with, and would make a nice wing complement to Aaron Nesmith if he could ever find consistency in his shot and/or Romeo Langford if he can find consistency with his health.
