Possible Boston Celtics acquisition in a Ben Simmons deal #2: Tyrese Maxey

Tyrese Maxey is a stick of dynamite scorer that has found a steady spot in the starting lineup in the absence of Ben Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers lineup.

If he were to land with the Celtics, he would revert back to the bench–assuming Simmons becomes the starting floor general in Boston–but either way, his contributions would be appreciated by first-year head coach Ime Udoka should Brad Stevens land the John Calipari coached product.

Maxey has had some duds from beyond the arc this season, but by and large his long-range shooting has helped create the pace-and-space offense Philadelphia is currently operating with centered around Joel Embiid.

Most importantly, he is starting to become a high-level passer, limiting turnovers while upping his assist numbers to just under five per game. Maxey is becoming a well-rounded impact player that, despite being undersized, is delivering in spades this season for a surprising Sixers squad.

Maxey may be worth pursuing independent of Simmons, but the price tag would probably absorbent absent Simmons’ $140 million contract.
