Boston Celtics: 2 players the young Cs could force off the roster
Boston Celtics veteran #2 the youth could force out: Juan Hernangomez
Grant Williams’ breakout season is probably the nail in the coffin for Juan Hernangomez’ tenure in green. Coming in on an expiring deal with a $7 million cap figure, Hernangomez was supposed to be a complementary cutting option that got easy buckets from the lanes created by all of the attention given to the ‘Jays’.
For whatever reason, he has proven to be unplayable by Ime Udoka and co. outside of a total of 12 garbage time minutes, though.
It’s probably only a matter of time before President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens finds a suitor for his deal. The hope is that he can return a player of value on a mid-sized salary in return.
Then again, he could explore a deal combining his salary with Richardson’s to bring in more of an impact player with a salary approaching $20 million.
If you’re a loyal reader of Hardwood Houdini, you know that’s my transaction goal for the Cs front office this season.
The likelihood is higher no matter the scenario for Hernangomez to go before Richardson does, though. He simply makes too much to ride the pine permanently. Something has to give, and it’ll probably be a trade.
