Boston Celtics: Pros and cons of pursuing a John Wall trade
The John Wall-Boston Celtics Pandora’s box has been opened.
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn opened it himself when he openly pondered the possibility of the Cs pursuing the injury-prone point guard.
Of course, this all stems from Marcus Smart’s comments to the press Monday night after an embarrassing 14 point loss that saw the Cs not record a single defensive rebound in the fourth quarter where they led by 14 at the beginning of it.
Smart didn’t relent:
"“Every team knows we’re trying to go to Jayson and Jaylen,” Smart said. “Every team is programmed and studied to stop Jayson and Jaylen. I think everybody’s scouting report is to make those guys pass the ball. They don’t want to pass the ball.”"
Quinn didn’t relent on the idea of Smart being dealt either, pointing out the gravity of Smart’s callout of the ‘Jays’:
"Smart, widely considered Boston’s leader, just publicly called out his two best teammates. Things aren’t going well in Boston. How much longer the Celtics are willing to endure this is going to define how bold they’re willing to be in fixing it."
It’s clear that things are not copacetic in the Celtics locker-room. Smart could soon be shopped by President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens if these comments fracture what is already a seemingly polarized locker-room dating back to the Lake Buena Vista bubble.
But would trading the longest-tenured Celtic for what many consider to be an albatross contract owned by John Wall be the best course of action?
Let’s figure some pros and cons:
