Boston Celtics swap former lottery picks with Cleveland Cavaliers

As we mentioned in the previous slide, the Boston Celtics have quite a number of TPEs at their disposal and, should they not use them within a year from their initial acquisition, will inevitably expire.

With this in mind, the team’s decision-makers should be hell-bent on looking to bring on players that fall into each of these exceptions’ price ranges, and once again we find someone who could fit perfectly into the threshold of Thompson’s exception in Collin Sexton and his $6.3 million pay-day.

Though we may be well-known for loving us some Mo Bamba, ideally the 22-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers star is the one we believe would be a dream acquisition via these means.

Here we see Sexton being traded to Boston for a package consisting of Aaron Nesmith and a future second-round pick.

For Cleveland, the main draw of this deal is obviously the acquisition of Nesmith who could serve as a promising young building block that they could bring on and have develop alongside their unbelievably young and high-potential nucleus of Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, Jarrett Allen, and Lauri Markkanen.

As for Boston, though the thought of losing their former 14th overall selection may be a bit hard to get behind, especially considering how well he’s been playing since the end of last season and throughout the Summer League/ preseason, but bringing on a guy like Sexton could very easily make it all worth their while.

Coming off of his best statistical season as a pro in 2020-21, through 60 games played the point guard posted stellar per-game averages of 24.3 points, 4.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and a steal on 48 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep.

As we always find ourselves reiterating, not only would Sexton serve as a talented long-term fixture at the one for the Celtics moving forward, but, at his ripe-young age, he could be a great third cog to have in tow alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown moving forward throughout their careers and, in turn, make their future, as well as the C’s even more promising than it already appears to be.
