Boston Celtics Takeaway No. 2)  Payton Pritchard will carry the offensive load of the second unit

Payton Pritchard had himself an impressive summer following his rookie season. He dominated in the Summer League, earning first-team honors and scored 92 points in a Portland Pro-Am game.

His shooting was incredibly efficient on a high volume and a high degree of difficulty. The Oregon product has even increased his three point shooting range indefinitely and put it on display in Wednesday night’s game.

Pritchard finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists in just nine minutes before exiting with a nose injury. In those 9 minutes, he proved he is more than capable to lead the second unit and fix one of the team’s biggest problems from last season.

The Boston Celtics have lacked bench production in the last few seasons and Pritchard might be the answer to that problem. He can shoot from anywhere on the court, break opponents down with his handles, and explodes for quick bursts which will open up the offense with the star performers on the bench.

This gives the Cs a lot of versatility with lineup combinations because of what Pritchard can add to the team. There are not many teams in the league that have guys like Pritchard who can come off the bench and quarterback the offense while the starters get their rest.

Pritchard was expected to take on a larger role this season and leading the second unit could be that larger role Boston Celtics fans expected.
