Boston Celtics star trade target #2: De’Aaron Fox

Most years, I’m so down on the Sacramento Kings that I write them off with the combined snark of Bill Maher and Trevor Noah. Mild apologies for any Sac-Town fans for stooping to that level, but the on-court product and front office dysfunction has been frustrating even on the opposite coast.

This year, I’m higher on them than usual due to their continuity–they re-signed Richaun Holmes after a successful two-year stint in the frontcourt and return eight of their top nine minute-getters from a season ago–and their selection of Davion Mitchell in the 2021 NBA Draft.

That may not result in much in an increasingly competitive Western Conference, though.

Assuming the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Portland Trailblazers, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, and Memphis Grizzlies all finish ahead of them (they all have more talent), the Kings could be right where they always are: unsuccessful and seeking changes.

With Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell representing the future more than De’Aaron Fox, perhaps it could be time for Fox to be moved somewhere he could win.

Fox setting up the ‘Jays’ and Marcus Smart (and the team’s other young athletes) could bring out the best in the John Calipari product.
