Boston Celtics: 2 Cs who could be replaced by training camp signings
Boston Celtics PF/C Grant Williams
In his first season with the Boston Celtics, Grant Williams was an integral part of the team’s second unit.
He was oftentimes holding down the fort with Enes Kanter in a front court duo that covered for the other’s shortcomings. In fact, Williams even got burn with the starters in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Toronto Raptors down in the Lake Buena Vista bubble during crunch time during that seven-game series.
Last season, despite serious strides in his shooting during the regular season, Williams became less of a producer and had a minimal impact in the team’s postseason series against the Nets.
His pandemic roommate Kemba Walker was moved off the team to start the offseason, and it’s plausible that he can see the same fate as the offseason concludes.
A utility forward like Williams has a place in the NBA, but the Cs may not be the best place for him right now. The presence of both Al Horford and Juan Hernangomez will be roadblocks to his development and keep him off the floor in what should be a pivotal growth season in Year 3.
