Boston Celtics: 2 Cs who could be replaced by training camp signings
Boston Celtics PF Jabari Parker
When ex-GM Danny Ainge brought on Jabari Parker late last season, there was a small hope that existed that maybe the 2014 #3 overall NBA Draft pick would be able to resurrect his career to at least 2018-19 Milwaukee Bucks Parker levels.
He largely fell flat in delivering on that promise. The Duke product struggled with his shot in the stretch run of the regular season and ended up playing in the postseason only when the Cs were down big. He didn’t play a single minute during Boston’s lone playoff win against the Brooklyn Nets.
Granted, he played well in garbage time–converting on 13 of his 18 shot attempts from the field—but that’s not the kind of player the Cs should be employing at this stage. This current team has a legitimately solid foundation and may not be too far from the top of the conference.
Having a reclamation project that has had injuries define his tenure might not be in either Brad Stevens’ or Ime Udoka’s best interest.
Luckily, parting ways with Parker won’t be hard for Stevens due to his non-guarantee in 2021-22. Sometimes not all projects do get reclaimed, and Parker may find out the hard way if his training camp performance lags behind the incoming training camp signings.
